Jamie Whincup fined for cool down lap confusion
Race winner Jamie Whincup has been fined 2000 AUD for not heading into the pits after the cool down lap of today’s Townsville race.
The Triple Eight Race Engineering driver stated it was because of confusion and radio problems as the chequered flag fell.
“I pitted, then my radio went down straight after the pit stop. I thought it was the last lap but then I couldn’t see the chequered flag,” said Whincup.
“I just remember the old man always said ‘Just keep going until you get the chequered flag,’ so I thought I’d keep going.”
Half of the 2000 AUD fine has been suspended until 31 December 2020.
