Nicolás Varrone and Benjamín Hites complete Fiat Tipo TCR test (updated)
South American drivers Nicolás Varrone and Benjamín Hites have completed a test with the Fiat Tipo TCR for a potential entry of the car in the 2021 TCR South America championship season.
“It was a very nice experience, Tecnodom and TCR South America were very kind to invite me,” said Varrone to TouringCarTimes.
“It was a whole new car for me, I come from F3, so a front-drive touring car was really fun to know, I enjoyed this a lot. I’m now analyzing my options to resume racing in 2020 and 2021.”
The test was held at the Tazio Nuvolari circuit in Italy with the Tecnodom Sport team, the constructors of the Fiat Tipo TCR that has been under development since 2018.
Varrone has raced in the 2020 British Formula 3 Championship for Chris Dittmann Racing, while Hites raced in the 2019 Ferrari Challenge North America, finishing second overall.
“It was my first approach ever with a front-drive car, so it was a very different feeling,” said Hites.
“The first outing was very good, then we did some comparison with Nico’s feedback so we saw the same struggles at first, since our background was the same. Once we checked all the telemetry details we both improved.”
“I’m racing in GT World Challenge now and it remains my priority, but TCR South America seems to be a very interesting project. Tecnodom has done a great work with the car, it’s looking really good. I’ve represented Fiat in Argentina and I’d be honoured to represent it in TCR South America in the future.”
Tecnodom Sport is yet to confirm its plans for 2021, more information to follow.
