DTM issue revised ten round calendar across three countries
ITR, the organising body of the DTM, has announced a heavily revised calendar for the 2020 season as a result on the ongoing issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The revised calendar, which will run from July through to November, features a total of ten race meetings but will be focused on Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands – meaning planned events at the likes of Brands Hatch, Monza and Anderstorp will all no longer take place.
The campaign is set to start on the Norisring street circuit in early July, although the unique nature of the circuit means that the event will be subject to final approval from the government.
The series will then head to Belgium as Spa returns to the calendar for the first time since 2005, again pending government approval, before two trips to the Lausitzring complete a busy August.
Assen retains its early September spot on the schedule before the series returns to German soil for a round on the full GP layout at the Nürburgring. A second round a week later will be on the shortened layout of the famous Eifel circuit to create a busy triple-header for teams and drivers.
Two rounds at Zolder in October – again on back-to-back weekends – will be followed by the season finale at Hockenheim in November.
“We would like to thank our fans for their patience in the past weeks, but now, we are all the more happy to be able to present a well-prepared and varied calendar that promises plenty of racing action,” ITR chairman Gerhard Berger said. “That is the result of the hard work by everyone involved in very special conditions.
“All in all, we have managed to come up with a compact calendar that was worth waiting for.”
