Nürburgring to host DTM pre-season test
The Nürburgring will host the 2020 DTM pre-season tests June 8-11, the series promoter ITR has announced.
The tests were originally due to take place mid-March at Monza, but the COVID-19 pandemic led a string of postponements, including the tests and the initial rounds of the season.
ITR has also confirmed that it is working on a “schedule that will embrace the ‘new normal’ post-coronavirus environment.”
These preparations include the hosting of races without fans or media on-site.
“With a lot of patience and hard work, preparations for the new DTM season are up and running at full speed, kicking off with the official test at the Nürburgring next month,” ITR’s managing director Marcel Mohaupt said.
“We’re extremely grateful to everybody at the circuit – they have put the infrastructure in place to allow us to test safely with all the relevant distancing rules.
“The test naturally leads us to the next step, and we are extremely confident that we will be able to hold thrilling races in 2020, and that we will soon publish a new calendar that takes into account the requirements for a ‘new normal’ in motorsport as well.”
The season is due to start at the Norisring on 10-12 of July, but TouringCarTimes can confirm the current version of the calendar is under further revision, with the Nuremberg street circuit likely to drop out of the schedule for 2020.
