Teamwork to run Lynk & Co programme in Asia
Teamwork Motorsport will become the first team to run the Lynk & Co 03 TCR in Asia after agreeing a deal to purchase three cars from Geely Group Motorsport.
The Chinese team will become the first to run the car outside the World Touring Car Cup and is currently evaluating potential programmes in both TCR Asia and TCR China for the season ahead.
The three cars have already been delivered to Teamwork’s Guangdong headquarters where preparations are ongoing ahead of the start of on-track testing, which is currently on-hold as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“The all-round performance that the Lynk & Co 03 TCR showed to the world last year in the WTCR was incredible and made our choice easy,” team boss Paul Hui said.
“We are especially glad to start this customer racing programme with a Chinese brand as a Chinese team. We’re excited to work with Geely Group Motorsport and Lynk & Co not only on the circuits, but also enjoy the huge support from the Chinese fans. We are looking forward to a really strong season.
“We are monitoring the coronavirus pandemic closely and our priority is obviously the well-being of everyone involved in the project. We have a close dialogue with organisers of the championships mentioned and we are ready for when the circumstances are there to race again.”
Having seen the Lynk & Co 03 TCR enjoy a successful debut season on track with the Cyan Racing team in WTCR, Geely Group Motorsport customer racing director Ron Hartvelt said he was confident that Teamwork would also be able to challenge at the front of the field with the car when racing gets underway in 2020.
“Teamwork Motorsport have shown that they are one of the best touring car teams in the China/Asia region and we are glad that they have chosen the Lynk & Co 03 TCR as our first customer in Asia,” he said.
“With their experience in regional TCR championships and endurance races, we are confident that they can continue the successful track record and showcase the performance capability of the Lynk & Co 03.”
