Tyler Maxson secures second Copeland 1-2 at Circuit of the Americas
Tyler Maxson headed home a second straight 1-2 for Copeland Motorsports in the second race of the TC America season opener at Circuit of the Americas.
Maxson started from pole position, claimed the lead at the start of the race and never looked back. The Hyundai Veloster N TCR driver won the race by six seconds ahead of team-mate Nikko Reger.
The top four positions were identical from the race of yesterday, with the FCP Euro duo of Nate Vincent and Michael Hurczyn claiming positions three and four.
It was however reigning champion Hurczyn who made the best first lap, overtaking his team-mate to grab third. But Vincent had stronger pace and got past into third on lap three, finishing ten seconds from race winner Maxson.
Honda driver Victor González finished fifth for his family team VGMC Racing, with Alfa Romeo driver Roy Block, who retired from the first race, fighting his way from the back of the field to finish sixth.
The Honda pair of Scott Smithson and CJ Moses rounded off the top eight, with Smithson passing Moses on lap four.
The next race of TC America takes place next weekend at the Streets of St. Petersburg.
