Drago Corse joins TCR Japan grid with Rio Shimono
Team Drago Corse, headed by former WTCC driver Ryo Michigami, will enter the 2020 TCR Japan series with Rio Shimono, who becomes the first female driver of the series.
“I want to drive anything that’s fast,” said Shimono to Auto Sport Japan.
The 19-year-old will drive a Honda Civic Type-R FK8 TCR for the team and raced in the Japanese single seater series Super FJ this year, claiming two victories.
“Touring cars may have a lot of contact, which is different from single seaters, but I want to be strong there. And I want to be recognised regardless of gender,” said Shimono.
Drago Corse will alongside their TCR Japan programme also run cars in the Super GT and Super Formula championships.
