Mitchell Cheah, Hafizh Syahrin make Hyundai move for Malaysia
Wild card entrants Mitchell Cheah and Hafizh Syahrin will race a pair of Hyundai i30 N TCRs in the World Touring Car Cup season finale in Malaysia later this month.
TCR Germany racer Cheah and MotoGP rider Syahrin were amongst three local wild cards that were announced back in July for the Sepang event, with the pair set to compete in a pair of Volkswagen Golf GTI TCRs being run by Team Engstler.
Whilst the team will remain the same, the two drivers will now switch to two Hyundais being run under the Hyundai Team Engstler banner – with both drivers making their first appearance in the car during the race weekend.
“The Hyundai i30 N TCR and Engstler Motorsport have had a very successful 2019 in Asia, winning both the TCR Asia and TCR Malaysia titles,” Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing Senior Sales Associate Andrew Johns said. “Running as wild cards in the final WTCR races of the season is a perfect way to round off the year, and a great sign of how well thought of the car is in the region.
“I’m sure the drivers with the team for the weekend will be able to put some of their local knowledge to good use, and put in some strong performances on what I’m sure will be a very exciting weekend.”
