Scott Pye hospitalised with gastro in Newcastle
Walkinshaw Andretti United has had to send Scott Pye to a local hospital after the Supercars driver suffered an ill-timed bout of gastro leading in to this weekend’s Newcastle 500.
Though it was reported earlier in the day that Pye’s endurance co-driver Warren Luff would be on standby, Pye was able to take part in the opening practice session.
Despire this, Pye’s condition has worsened, making a trip to the hospital necessary for him to recover if he is to return to the wheel of the #2 car in his last outing for WAU.
Bound for Team 18 next year, Pye wraps up a third season with WAU this weekend, having netted two podiums at Bathurst as well as a maiden win in 2018 with the team.
Luff is present in Newcastle to race in the Toyota 86 Racing Series support category, stepping up to the #2 car for at least the rest of Friday.
