Andrew Jordan: “I’ll get stuck in on race day”
Andrew Jordan has vowed to “get stuck in” during Sunday’s three races after a tough qualifying session ahead of the penultimate meeting of the BTCC season at Silverstone.
The West Surrey Racing driver had shown strong pace in both free practice sessions to outpace team-mate Colin Turkington, but then ran into problems in qualifying that left him with work to do on race day.
Having planned to work together with the older BMW 125i M Sport of Stephen Jelley in order to try and get a tow on Silverstone’s long Wellington Straight, Jordan instead lost out when the Team Parker driver hit issues early in the session – leaving him without a partner to work with.
It meant the Pirtek Racing-backed ace had to settle for 14th on the grid despite being just two tenths of a second slower than Turkington – who will start race one from sixth.
“We planned that I was going to work with Stephen and that Tom [Oliphant] and Colin would work together,” he said. “We practiced that in FP2 and it went well. However, I think he threw an alternator belt or something on the first run so I lost my slipstreaming buddy. It’s one of those things and can’t worry about it.
“We could see that the tow was worth a few tenths of a second, but I’ve been here a long time and I know that it’s not over yet. A lot of things are going to change before we get to the final race and whilst this wasn’t in the plan, I’ll come back tomorrow and get stuck in.”
