Jenson Button to race Super GT Honda in DTM finale

Ex-Formula 1 champion Jenson Button will take part in the final rounds of the DTM season at Hockenheim next month in one of the guest entries from the Super GT series.

Button, who won the 2009 F1 title with Brawn GP, secured the Super GT title last season alongside Naoki Yamamoto in a Team Kunimitsu-run Honda NSX.

The 39-year-old will now drive the same car at Hockenheim where Honda, Nissan and Lexus will all run a single car ahead of an event featuring cars from both series at Fuji Speedway in November.

“During my career as a driver I’ve always been an avid admirer of so many different forms of top-level motorsport,” Button said in a post on Instagram announcing the news.

“The plan post-F1 has always been to seek out new opportunities and challenges across those various categories and I’m delighted to say I’ve been given another such opportunity by Honda, GTA and DTM, as I will be taking part in the last two rounds of the DTM in my Team Kunimitsu Honda NSX.

“Nissan and Lexus from Super GT will also be entering a car each, which will make an already fiercely competitive championship even more so, and I can’t wait to experience it first hand.”
