Bradley Burns to make Race 2 start following engine change
Bradley Burns will be able to participate in the final TCR Germany championship race of the weekend at the Nürburgring, his Pyro Motorsport team have confirmed to TouringCarTimes.
Burns’ Honda Civic Type R TCR caught fire at Advan-Bogen in the early stages of Saturday’s opening race, with track marshals extinguishing the flames once the car came to a halt at the following Veedol chicane.
The incident triggered a safety car period while Burns’ stricken car was being retrieved.
Pyro Motorsport team manager Tom Hunt told TouringCarTimes that an overnight engine change had been conducted, affirming Burns’ participation in the race this afternoon.
“A conrod snapped and went through the engine, so that’s what caused it,” Hunt said. “Then the oil catches fire very quickly when it comes into contact with the hot parts. It could have been a lot worse than what it was. The guys changed the engine last night and we will be back for the race today.”
Bradley Burns will start Race 2 from the last row of the grid. Steibel Motorsport’s Cupra of Pascal Eberle is on pole.
