Jake Dennis mildly satisfied with difficult race at Assen
It was a grey day for R-Motorsport at Assen – and not only because the weather – as the team finished the day without scoring any points, with Jake Dennis the best classified driver for the team in twelfth place.
The Aston Martin Vantages struggled in the qualifying session, taking the last two rows of the grid. For the race, heavy rain fell over Assen, making the conditions even more difficult for the field.
Dennis started from 17th spot on the grid, and the battles in the middle of the pack didn’t work in his favour. Still, the Briton felt the end result was better than what they could have initially expected.
“It was a difficult race, but I think it would have been even harder for us in the dry,” said Dennis. “Looked at it from that perspective, we can be relatively satisfied with the race.
“I didn’t have a perfect pit stop, which probably cost us some time. With twelfth, we finished not far outside the points. All things considered, I’m not dissatisfied with the way the day went.”
“Today, we experienced racing under extremely difficult conditions. In heavy rain, our squad put in a very strong driving performance, which unfortunately went unrewarded in terms of top results,” added R-Motorsport team principal Dr. Florian Kamelger.
“With P12, P13 and P14, Jake, Ferdinand (Habsburg) and Paul (di Resta) got the maximum that was possible in these conditions. Anyway, we now have to look ahead to Sunday and aim to get ourselves back in the points.”
