Robin Frijns fastest in second free practice at Assen

Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline driver Robin Frijns set the fastest lap time in the second free practice session at Assen, with the local hero beating this morning’s quickest time set by fellow Audi driver Loïc Duval.

Frijns scored a new fastest lap time for the DTM on its debut at the ‘Cathedral of Speed’ with a best of 1:26.277s, with Audi Sport Team Rosberg’s René Rast in second place, 0.151 seconds behind.

Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline’s Nico Müller suffered a puncture on the main straight, although the Swiss driver able to return to the pits on his own power. Despite the incident, Müller was third, three-tenths of a second off the pace.

Audi continued its dominance in the session with Team Phoenix’s drivers Duval and Mike Rockenfeller next, with the 2013 champion four-tenths behind Frijns.

Team RMG drivers Timo Glock, in sixth, and Marco Wittmann, seventh, were the best placed drivers for BMW Motorsport, with Team RBM’s Joel Eriksson and Sheldon van der Linde next; the South African a second off the pace.

Team WRT’s Jonathan Aberdein completed the top ten whilst Daniel Juncadella was again the fastest driver for R-Motorsport in eleventh place, 1.2 seconds behind Frijns.

The DTM returns to action on Saturday morning, with the qualifying session for Race 1 scheduled for 10:15 CEST.
