Jean-Karl Vernay and Tom Coronel excluded for boost issues

Comtoyou Racing driver Tom Coronel was excluded from Race 2 at Vila Real, while Jean-Karl Vernay received his second exclusion from the weekend in Race 3 at Vila Real, again for overboosting during the races.

The two cars, which are powered by the same engine and ECU, both hit 0.47% and 0.43% respectively against the target of 0.30%, which was perceived to be in breach of the FIA Balance of Performance boost chart.

Vernay had already been excluded after finishing tenth in Race 1, along with the Comtoyou Racing-run Audi of Frédéric Vervisch.

Vernay had finished fifth in Race 3, while Coronel had finished 19th in Race 2.

WRT and Comtoyou Racing had already lodged an appeal for Vernay and Vervisch’s exclusions on Saturday.

This time, WRT have appealed Vernay’s exclusion, but Comtoyou Racing have waived their right to appeal the exclusion of Tom Coronel’s Cupra from the second race.

The FIA International Court of Appeal is expected to convene to hear the argument of the three Audis before the next round of the championship in two months’ time.

Audi Sport customer racing had indicated earlier their appeal was to clarify some problems with the way the FIA’s boost measuring system works.
