Gordon Shedden given five-place penalty in Germany

WRT Audi driver Gordon Shedden has been given a five-place grid drop for an incident at the start of lap two in the first race at the Nürburgring, involving PWR Racing’s Daniel Haglöf and the Honda Civic TCR of Tiago Monteiro.

Shedden hit the rear of Monteiro’s Honda, and also ran into the side of Haglöf’s Cupra, which caused both Haglöf and Shedden to retire from the race with damaged steering, while Monteiro went on to finish 16th.

Haglöf had been dropping down the order, with Monteiro passing him and then Shedden was also lining up to overtake the Swede before the contact.

“I was following Tiago, and he was making a move on Haglöf who was going backwards,” said Shedden to TouringCarTimes.

“I was then trying to follow Tiago through, but then Haglöf seemed to start to close, and I turned to avoid him but crossed the wheel up and hit Tiago, and then Haglöf.

“It wasn’t deliberate, it was just an accident, I put my hands up to it.”

Shedden will start Race 2 from P21, but will start the third race from his original qualifying position of 16th.
