Robert Dahlgren leads close-run championship after Anderstorp

Robert Dahlgren has taken the lead of the 2019 TCR Scandinavian Touring Car Championship, by one point ahead of unlikely rival Andreas Ahlberg in the Volkswagen, after a successful race day.

The former World Touring Car driver dominated the first race from pole position, leading by 6.5 seconds, but in Race 2, after a good start and getting ahead of former points leader Andreas Wernersson’s Audi, and then a clean pass on team-mate Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky’s Cupra, he became stuck behind Mattias Andersson’s Honda for much of the race.

“We had the speed to do it in terms of lap times, but we were quick in the wrong places,” said Dahlgren to TouringCarTimes.

“We did a few things to try and improve our speed, but they’re definitely quicker than us in the straights. If you can draw a map of where you’d want to be fastest on the circuit, Mattias has that map, and it’s spot on.

“My only chance was to wait until his tyres going off – but by then there was way too much of a gap to everyone else.”

The next round of the championship is Dahlgren’s home circuit at Skellefteå in two weeks’ time.
