Audi present Andrea Dovizioso’s livery for Misano

Audi Sport has revealed the livery that MotoGP rider Andrea Doviozioso will sport at the next round of the 2019 DTM season at Misano, where the Italian will take over the second WRT-run RS 5 DTM as a guest driver.

‘Dovi’ will replace Brazilian driver Pietro Fittipaldi, who has clash with the Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix and his role as test driver for the Haas team.

Doviozioso completed one and a half days of testing at Misano last week in preparation for the event, and was coached by two-time DTM champion Mattias Ekström.

“The biggest challenge for me was to reach the limit in the fast corners, especially in the first six or seven laps,” said the Italian. “The DTM race cars generate so much downforce that theoretically you can do so much more. It’s very different than the MotoGP bike.

“I knew that the DTM drivers tackle certain corners flat-out. When I drove those passages myself with the RS 5 DTM, I thought it was impossible. But then Mattias helped me a lot.”

Dovizioso comes from a town near to Misano, so his DTM outing will prove to be something of a home event.

“Last year I won the MotoGP race at this circuit so, for me personally, there is something very special about this track,” he said. “It made me very happy and a little proud as well to be asked whether I’d like to take part in the DTM as a guest driver at Misano.”

The Misano round of the DTM takes place from the 7th to the 9th of July.
