Rob Huff back with SAIC Volkswagen as their international driver

Rob Huff will join the SAIC Volkswagen 333 Racing team for four rounds of this year’s China Touring Car Championship, racing in China in addition to his programme with Sébastien Loeb Racing in the World Touring Car Cup.

The 2012 world champion will contest four rounds of the championship with the Volkswagen Lamando GTS, and is the third international driver confirmed for the season, after Alex Fontana and Adam Morgan both took part at last weekend’s season opener for Dongfeng Kia Racing and BAIC Senova respectively.

Last year Huff took part in two races for the team, with clashing commitments meaning three-time British champion Colin Turkington stood in for him in the other two events, of the four permitted for international wild cards.

The Changan Ford FRD Team and the new Guangzhou Automobile Toyota Racing Team are the only teams to have not confirmed their international wild cards.

“It’s great to be back racing with the SAIC Volkswagen 333 Racing team, after all the success we’ve had in the past two years,” said Huff.

“The China Touring Car Championship has become my second home away from the WTCR, and we’ve had some fantastic battles in the series. The racing is always very tough, and very close, and in China another factor which always makes the races thrilling is the unpredictable weather.

“After I wasn’t able to do more than two rounds last year, it’ll be great to be doing the full half-season as the team’s international driver, and the aim is to help the guys win both the drivers’ and manufacturers’ titles. It will be a tough ask against some stiff competition from Ford and Kia, but I know we can do it.”
