Volkswagen to run at 60kg due to change of ECU for Slovakia

The compensation weight has been adjusted for the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR model ahead of the World Touring Car Cup races at Slovakiaring this weekend, with it now running at 60kg, instead of the previously announced 20kg.

The reason for the adjustment is because the Sébastien Loeb Racing team have switched back to the original ECU, and therefore a change of homologated model.

The Volkswagens with the new ECU had an average lap time from the first two races that was four-tenths of a second slower than the Honda Civic TCR, on average the fastest model so far.

This would have seen the Volkswagen running at 20kg of compensation weight this weekend, a reduction of 40kg compared to the first two races of the season when all cars run on the maximum weight of 60kg.

The cars would have to run at full ballast until the Race of Germany, when their compensation weight will be recalculated based on the results from the Slovakiaring and Zandvoort.
