Luca Engstler to defend TCR Asia series title
Luca Engstler will look to add to his run of TCR title success in 2019 after Engstler Motorsport confirmed that the teenager will return to TCR Asia series this season.
Engstler beat team-mate Mitchell Cheah to the title last season driving a Volkswagen Golf, but will defend his crown at the wheel of a Hyundai i30 N TCR – which the team will be running in the series for the first time.
Confirmation of Engstler’s return to the series comes at the same time as Engstler Motorsport takes on the role of official parts agent for Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing for the TCR Asia series, with the team also able to offer complete cars for sale along with technical support from a base at the Sepang International Circuit.
“We are very pleased to be the contact person for Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing spare parts in the TCR Asia,” Andreas Klinge, Hyundai Project Manager Engstler Motorsport GmbH, said. “After a few months of co-operation, this opportunity has already come for us and we are proud of the trust placed in us by Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing. An important milestone for us!”
The German team introduced the Hyundai into it’s line-up mid-way through last season, with Engstler going close to securing the title in TCR Germany before missing out on the crown to Harald Proczyk during the final meeting of the year.
Engstler did however secure the inaugural TCR Malaysia title earlier this month; winning all of the six races bar one.
The new TCR Asia series eason is due to kick off at Sepang in early April.
