Cameron Waters: “I think we’ll be really quick”
Cameron Waters put the new Ford Mustang on top in the first official Supercars Championship pre-season test of 2019 and is hopeful for the coming season.
“(The car) does some things well and some things bad, I think the things it does good is really good, but I think if we fix those things where it’s not quite there yet I think we’ll be really quick,” said Waters.
Tickford Racing team-mate Chaz Mostert was third fastest, two tenths behind Waters and was pleased despite some concerns over the balance of the car.
“There wasn’t anything that stopped our day, and I think the guys, to produce four brand new kitted out Mustangs was a big task, so it was good to see four cars running around unscathed,” said Mostert.
“Maybe not the exact balance we really want at this stage, but at least we got the first test under our waist. All positive vibes, it’s good a lot of fans came out today. Even for a test day it’s always special to see the support we have, so overall a good day.”
While the team occupied three of the top five positions with Will Davison in fifth position, team manager Tim Edwards says there is a lot of work left ahead of the season start.
“It’s a good way to start the year, no doubt. Obviously it doesn’t mean much since it doesn’t pay points, but it means a fair bit to us because the team have put in an incredible effort to get the cars race ready,” said Edwards.
“There have been a lot of late nights finishing the preparations, so it helps to have a result like that. That said, by no means are we content with everything. There’s plenty of work to be done, so we’ll get back to the shop and tune it up for Adelaide.”
