Colin Turkington: “There is no magic formula”
Colin Turkington insists there is “no magic formula” for his success as he seeks to challenge for a fourth British Touring Car Championship title during the year ahead.
The Northern Irishman secured the championship crown for a third time in 2018 and will defend it with WSR for the first time, having been unable to do so in either 2010 or 2015 following his two previous successes.
Speaking at the annual Autosport International Show, Turkington admitted he was delighted to be back with the BMW team again this season and was fully focused on trying to add to his success during the year ahead.
“It will be great to defend the titles with the team for the first time and I’m looking forward to resuming battle again,” he said. “I know it isn’t going to be any easier than last year, but that is the challenge we face.
“I’m just looking forward to getting back in the car and the best environment for me has been with Dick Bennetts and WSR as it’s where I’ve had my most success. I’m not sure what the magic ingredient is, but they always give me a car that can win. They have confidence in me and I in them, and when we go racing, it is like getting the family back together.
“We try to win in the right way and as a team and driver, we’ll continue to give everything. It’s hard to win consistently in this series, and I didn’t do that myself with just one win last year; it was a reliable car that got me the title. There is no magic formula and it’s hard to win races, so we have to make sure we don’t give up and see where we come.”
