TCR Australia announces 2019 calendar

Promoters of the new TCR Australia Series have announced a seven round calendar for the inaugural season of competition.

The new series will launch in mid-May next year at the Sydney Motorsport Park, with each round set to run as part of the Shannons Nationals series of events.

Phillip Island, Queensland Raceway, Winton, Sandown and the Bend Motorsport Park will also host events with the latter being the only circuit to have two rounds – including the season finale in November.

The full race format and series regulations will be announced in due course, with discussions on-going to secure a TV broadcast deal.

“Releasing the calendar is a great milestone for TCR Australia, and we are very pleased to launch the category alongside the Shannons Nationals events,” Matt Braid, director of series promoters the Australian Racing Group, said. “The seven events at six circuits give us variety at the best permanent circuits in Australia.

“The events give us great flexibility on race formats too, and we look forward to announcing those in the coming weeks.

“TCR Australia is one of most anticipated new racing categories to land on the Australian motorsport scene in many years. It will be fresh, exciting and action-packed.

“There are still a number of factors to confirm, including the broadcasting of the TCR events, and we are close to locking in all the details of what will be a great debut series for the teams and drivers that commit.”

A statement announcing the calendar revealed that Audi, Volkswagen, Honda and Hyundai entries have already been lodged for the inaugural season.
