Expanded 2019 STCC calendar revealed featuring midnight race
The STCC organisation has unveiled the calendar for the 2019 season, which features an expansion from six to seven rounds, and a midnight race.
“The expanded calendar for 2019 is an important part in our long term work to develop STCC on all fronts,” said Karin Bååth, Chief Operating Officer for STCC AB.
“This is also a first step to lock in the dates for the coming years so that teams, fans and partners can plan well in advance, just as for other major sporting events.”
Also confirmed is a plan for the future to expand to more races than seven.
“The step from six to seven races is also an important part in our development plan for the STCC, and our ambition is to host more races than that in the future. But we need to make the changes in the right pace to secure a working set-up for all involved in terms of costs, planning and set-up,” said Karin Bååth.
New to the calendar is the midnight race in Skellefteå that will take place on June 15-16th while the Norwegian round at Rudskogen and the race at Anderstorp are not included on the calendar.
Two of the dates are marked as TBA, the second and sixth round, with speculation pointing at a street race in Örebro that was previously planned to be included in the 2017 calendar. The STCC organisation has confirmed that those races will be confirmed before the end of the year.
The 2019 season starts on May 3-4th at Knutstorp and ends as is tradition at Mantorp Park, this year moved one week later to October 3-4th.
The STCC organisation also announced more official test days with the official pre-season test locked in for April 16th, and two further test days during the season to be revealed later.
