Eurico de Jesus takes sixth-straight sprint race win for the #88 MacPro Honda
Eurico de Jesus has extended his and co-driver Henry Ho’s lead in the drivers’ championship to 21 points after another victory for the team in the second sprint race of the day at Ningbo.
Sunny Wong started his Teamwork Motorsport Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR from pole position, but bogged down at the start and lost two places to both the fast-starting Honda of de Jesus from third on the grid, with CUS Racing’s Zhou Bi Huang moving up to second.
Wong then lost two spots later on the lap after Li Lin charged through in the Leo Racing Volkswagen, with Wong falling behind team-mate Paul Poon.
De Jesus meanwhile was pulling away from Zhou Bi Huang’s car, which began to slow on lap two and into retirement.
The Teamwork cars race ended a lap later, with Wong out with a front-left puncture, rejoining the field a lap down, and Poon retiring with a mechanical issue.
This left de Jesus in a comfortable lead, while Li Lin was forced to defend against Filipe de Souza’s TA Motorsport Audi RS 3 LMS late in the race, with the #8 MacPro Honda of Miguel Kong not far behind.
De Jesus won the race X clear of Li Lin, with de Souza completing the podium.
The #88 MacPro Racing Honda of Ho and de Jesus now leads the drivers’ championship by 21 points, heading into the final race of the day, the one-hour endurance event at 16:20 CST (10:20 CET).
