Lestrup Racing Team evaluating TCR Germany and STCC for 2019

After a stunning second full season in the championship, with Lestrup Racing Team’s lead driver Andreas Wernersson heading to the season finale with an outside chance of the 2018 drivers’ title, team principal Fredrik Lestrup says the team are looking to work out their plans for 2019 as soon as possible.

The Volkswagen-equipped team outshone both the dealer-supported SEAT, Honda and Volkswagen teams on many an occasion this year, and finished ahead of STCC powerhouses WestCoast Racing on their return to the championship after a year away.

Team principal Fredrik Lestrup says the team want to get their 2019 programme sorted as soon as possible, and the 2015 German Touring Car (DTC) champion says the burgeoning TCR Germany Touring Car Championship is also a prospect.

“We’re a very small team, and we don’t have the resources of the bigger teams we’re fighting against, so it’ll be nice to start now to work on next year and be on stable ground, which I think will help us performance-wise,” said Lestrup to TouringCarTimes.

“We’re now looking at what to do next year. I raced in Germany for many years, so it’s attractive for us to go there to TCR Germany, and there they don’t have many Volkswagen teams, or we could also race here again in Sweden. Nothing’s decided yet.”
