Volkswagen on maximum compensation weight for Rudskogen

The Volkswagens of the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship will carry maximum ballast at the next round at Rudskogen after the latest calculations, making them heavier than their chief rivals, the Cupra TCRs, for the first time this year.

The results of the performance-based calculation has determined that the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR has been the strongest car in recent rounds, and as such they’ll carry the full compensation weight of 60kg at Rudskogen, and increase of 10kg since the last round at Karlskoga two weeks’ ago.

Adversely, the Cupra TCRs, which were effectively disqualified from their best results at the last race following protests from WestCoast Racing and MA:GP, will drop 10kg to 50kg of compensation weight, with a 20kg shift therefore between the two Volkswagen Group manufacturer cars.

The only other two manufacturers on the grid, Audi and Honda, both lose weight as well. The Honda Civic Type R FK2 TCR of Mattias Andersson can remove 10kg from its base weight, while the Audi RS 3 LMSs of Brink Motorsport, Brovallendesign and PWR Racing can also drop to 0kg of compensation weight.

On top of the compensation weight, the race result-based success ballast will also apply, with the top three scorers from Karlskoga required to carry additional weight onboard their cars.

Following the exclusion of Robert Dahlgren, Daniel Haglöf and Philip Morin from Race 1 and Mikaela Ahlin-Kottulinsky from Race 2, Johan Kristoffersson was both the highest scorer and new championship leader, meaning he’ll carry 20kg of weight on his Golf.

Andreas Wernersson of the Lestrup Racing Team will carry 15kg, while Race 2’s reclassified winner Mattias Andersson will keep 10kg of success ballast aboard his Civic TCR.
