DMSB to meet with DTM drivers as rain raises safety concerns for a night race

DMSB (German ASN) officials will meet with drivers’ and teams’ representatives to discuss the best approach to tonight’s first ever DTM night race in case it continues to rain at Misano.

The rain that’s been seen so far today wasn’t expected in the Italian region, regarded as a typical August holiday destination, and several drivers, including as Audi’s Jamie Green, have already raised concerns about poor visibility at certain points on the track prior to the event, and again after setting the fastest lap time in yesterday’s floodlit first practice session.

However, it has been raining at Misano throughout the day and question marks have been raised on whether it’s suitable to hold a night race in these types of conditions.

Reigning champion René Rast, who qualified in third for today’s grid in his Rosberg Audi, said after the session: “It was very tough as visibility is difficult in some places, so it was important to have a clear track ahead to have a good lap. Despite that, it still was good fun!”

Rain is not expected for tonight at Misano, but DMSB officials will meet with Mercedes-AMG’s Gary Paffett, Audi’s Jamie Green and BMW’s Timo Glock as the driver representatives from each manufacturer in order to study the best approach should the rain return.
