No action for starting incident at Brands Hatch GP
The stewards have confirmed there will be no further action for the incident at the start of the second race of the weekend at Brands Hatch, after Abt Audi’s Robin Frijns, BMW Team RMG’s Augusto Farfus and HWA Mercedes-AMG driver Lucas Auer came together at Graham Hill bend on lap one.
Frijns and Auer made light contact on the way into Graham Hill bend while fighting for fifth, with the two cars spinning off to the left of the circuit with Frijns collecting the barriers.
Auer was able to rejoin the pack straight away, with the championship contender going on to finish eighth, while Frijns would opt for a late stop strategy which helped him recover to finish 12th.
Augusto Farfus also ran into the pair and damaged his BMW’s front splitter, with the damage forcing him to retire from the race on lap 20.
The stewards investigation has found no driver at fault and awarded no penalties, meaning the only punishments handed out were the in-race warning flag handed to HWA Mercedes-AMG driver Pascal Wehrlein, and the drive-through penalty given to Audi’s Jamie Green after contact with BMW driver Marco Wittmann near the end of the race.
