Daniel Juncadella scores Brands Hatch pole position on Saturday

Daniel Juncadella has taken pole position for the first race of the weekend at Brands Hatch, leading an HWA Mercedes-AMG 1-2 ahead of team-mate Lucas Auer, in a session which ended with yellow flags preventing any improvements.

There was time for just two full runs in the short 20-minute session, with Lucas Auer leading the way after the first timed laps in his Mercedes-AMG C63 DTM, before Juncadella went fastest when the cars ventured out with just five minutes to go at the end of the session.

Before there could be any further improvements, Timo Glock ran off at Surtees in his RMR BMW M4 DTM, which meant Juncadella was confirmed for his second pole of the season ahead of Auer, with reigning champion René Rast third in his Audi Sport Team Rosberg-run RS 5 DTM.

Austrian driver Philipp Eng was the best-placed of the BMWs in fourth, with free practice pace-setter Augusto Farfus fifth.

Championship leader Gary Paffett qualified sixth is his Mercedes, improving on his final run after running into trouble on his first run, hitting the barriers after running wide at Paddock Hill bend.

The first race is scheduled for 13:30 BST (14:30 CEST).
