Dan Lloyd “more determined” to increase winning record
Dan Lloyd says he is “more determined” to try and pick up another two victories in the TCR UK series after seeing his winning record ended last time out at Castle Combe.
The WestCoast Racing driver saw his perfect record ended in the opening race of round four after a penalty for a last lap move on rival Ollie Taylor saw him finish in second spot.
Victory in the second race means he remains well clear in the standings with an advantage of 82 points over Taylor going into his ‘home’ round of the year.
Lloyd will once again carry an additional 60kg of compensation weight on his Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR but said he didn’t think it would be as much of a disadvantage as it was at Combe last month – particularly with Taylor’s Honda also now carrying extra weight onboard.
“I’m really looking forward to going to Oulton Park in the TCR car,” he said. “I love it. It’s one of my favourite circuits in the UK. I do think of it as my home circuit, even though it’s in Cheshire. It’s my closest track and I have a lot of great memories there.
“I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in. Hopefully the compensation weight won’t be as much of a disadvantage for us this weekend. The Honda will be running with 20kg so that should help us out a little.”
“We need to keep the momentum going into the final rounds. I lost a win last time, so it’s made me more determined to push for pole and another clean sweep again.”
Lloyd returns to TCR action on the back of a brace of top ten finishes for BTC Norlin in the latest rounds of the BTCC season at Snetterton, which included fine drives through the field in the first and third races of the weekend.
Contact in the second race of the weekend saw him take 15th but he still secured a triple score at the wheel of his Honda Civic Type-R.
“We came into the weekend on the back foot already after missing the test,” he said “We then didn’t have clean FP sessions after a few niggles with the car, so to be fair, we dragged some great results out of the weekend. We fought really well and we kept out of a lot of the trouble on track.
“The first race went well. Coming from 23rd up to ninth was great, especially in those conditions. I got another strong start in race three and I think we had a really good chance of finishing in the top five until we got hit. I went up the inside but unfortunately got tagged by another car which caused a bit of damage. Then going into the corner at the end of the straight it put me off the circuit and dropped us back.
“I got off to another strong start in race three but then got boxed out at the hairpin and onto all the damp so dropped back to 20th before managing to fight our way back to ninth. We’ve definitely got the race pace in the car; the results didn’t really show that.
“If we can nail qualifying at Rockingham then we’ll be right up there at the sharp end challenging for podiums.”
