Jack Goff storms to his second pole in a day for the Diamond Double
Jack Goff has broken his own lap record from Qualifying 1 to secure pole position for the 20-lap third race at Snetterton in his Eurotech Honda, outqualifying the Team Dynamics Honda of Matt Neal and the re-engined Motorbase Ford Focus of Tom Chilton.
The rear-wheel drive cars set the early pace with Colin Turkington fastest in his West Surrey Racing BMW, but Turkington’s best lap was deleted due to track limits which would have put him second on the grid, with his next best lap putting him eighth in the final order.
Matt Neal then then went fastest in his Team Dynamics Honda Civic FK8, before team-mate Dan Cammish quickly pipped him, but neither drivers lap could compare to Jack Goff’s first run, who took pole with a time of 1:55.319.
Goff then improved his time even further to 1:55.171, putting his car three-tenths clear of Matt Neal who made a late improvement, with Tom Chilton then popping up to third in his Ford Focus RS, running a new engine which was just installed during the first qualifying session.
Tom Ingram was fourth in his Speedworks Toyota ahead of Cammish, while Andrew Jordan was the best-placed rear-wheel drive runner in sixth in his BMW 125i M Sport.
Adam Morgan was seventh in his Ciceley Motorsport Mercedes, with Colin Turkington eighth ahead of the Eurotech Honda of Brett Smith and the second Ciceley Mercedes of Tom Oliphant.
The Diamond Double event lasts 20 laps, or 60 miles, almost double the length of a typical BTCC event, and the race is scheduled for 17:15 BST on Sunday.
