Kevin Ceccon hopes for more WTCR outings after successful debut
Team Mulsanne’s new signing Kevin Ceccon says he hopes to be back with the team at the next rounds in China after scoring points on his touring car debut this weekend in Slovakia for Alfa Romeo.
The 24-year-old was drafted in at the last minute as a replacement for Gianni Morbidelli, with the team’s fortunes turning around with the Slovakian circuit favouring the characteristics of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR.
Fabrizio Giovanardi first scored a fifth place finish in Race 1, while Ceccon led Giovanardi over the line in a dramatic Race 3 to match the result, with Ceccon fifth and Giovanardi sixth.
“It’s the first points of Alfa this weekend, we had our first points on Saturday, and today double points as we finished fifth and sixth in Race 3, so it was a perfect weekend,” said Ceccon to TouringCarTimes.
“To arrive and celebrate the best weekend of the year for the team is a great achievement. The team’s been working hard to achieve this result all year, so I’m happy for them especially.
“I also enjoyed the races a lot. There were fights from the beginning to the end, they weren’t boring at all and I did some good touring car style moves which was a good feeling.”
Ceccon hopes to be back at the next round of the WTCR in two months’ time at the Ningbo circuit in China after a strong debut weekend.
“If they call me, I’d run to China,” he said. “It was a great first weekend so I’d hope to be there.”
