Dániel Nagy not thinking about championship yet despite double podium
Local man Dániel Nagy says he will remain focused on results rather than the overall championship despite scoring a double podium at the Hungaroring this weekend.
The M1RA driver finished third behind Stian Paulsen and Dusan Borkovic in a wet-dry opening race of the weekend before going one better in Sunday’s race won by M1RA team-mate Francisco Mora.
The 30-year-old from Budapest is now just 25 points behind championship leader Mikel Azcona as the series heads to Assen in the Netherlands next month.
“I said before the race weekend that I’m not thinking about the championship too much, just focusing on race-by-race,” Nagy told TouringCarTimes.
“I’ll continue in this way because we’re only at mid-season. There is still a lot that can happen in the remaining races, so we will see what happens.”
After making his way through the field to claim the final step on the podium in the first race, Nagy produced a similar charge in Race 2 and finished just 1.4 seconds behind team-mate Mora in the Hyundai i30 N TCR.
Nagy made a daring late-braking move on the Peugeot 308TCR of Francisco Abreu to take second place, but admitted using all of his tyre performance to do so.
Nagy said: “I felt I had a great car and I was really determined to get this podium. I was hoping for dry conditions because I have a lot more experience around this circuit in these conditions. It worked out and I got a very good start but I couldn’t catch the Peugeots in a straight line.
“But eventually I got past them and I was catching Francisco near the end. But he was just a bit too far ahead of me and Ihad used the best of my tyres by that point anyway.
