Ash Sutton doubles up with race two victory
Ash Sutton repeated his victory from earlier in the day with a solid run to first spot in the second BTCC race of the weekend at Croft.
Sutton started from pole after winning race one but lost out at the start of the race to the fast-starting Toyota of Tom Ingram, who jumped from third into first.
It wouldn’t last however, with Sutton seizing the chance to reclaim top spot at the hairpin on lap two when Ingram left the door slightly open.
Once ahead, Sutton was able to ease away from the Speedworks man behind as he was forced to go defensive to hold onto his second place, with Colin Turkington putting him under ever increasing pressure.
As Sutton took victory by just over four seconds, becoming the first man to win twice in a day this season, Ingram was able to hold on through the final laps for his second podium of the day with Turkington being left to settle for third.
As in race one, Sam Tordoff was strong in the first of the Motorbase Fords and a lonely race saw him cross the line in fourth ahead of Andrew Jordan’s BMW.
Jordan had battled with Rob Collard through the first half of the race before getting ahead at Tower, with Collard then forced to pit when he suffered a puncture and spin at Hawthorn.
Tom Chilton took sixth spot ahead of Matt Neal, with Senna Proctor, Dan Lloyd and Rory Butcher rounding out the top ten.
Having started on the front row, Jason Plato could only manage 14th after being forced to serve a drive through penalty for a jump start, with a similar penalty preventing Adam Morgan from scoring.
Josh Cook was an early retirement in dramatic fashion after a high-speed trip into the field at Tower.
