Julien Briché hoping to take reversed-grid pole position
Julien Briché finished a surprising third in Free Practice 2 at Spa-Francorchamps. The Peugeot driver looked like he could challenge for the lead of the session, showing strong pace for as much as three laps around the iconic Belgian track.
Despite his good performances, Briché does not feel pole position is a realistic target.
“Pole position is a bit of a long stretch,” said the Frenchman to TouringCarTimes. “It’s a bit complicated to understand the results because people were running with different configurations, some were on new tyres and some were not, so it’s hard to say. My goal is to be in the top 12 in qualifying and try to earn myself a reversed-grid pole position.”
The Peugeot driver admitted the speed differential will make his job more difficult for him during the race.
“Of course speed is going to play a big role during the race. Spa is also quite aggressive on the tyres, so it’s basically going to be about surviving the first lap and then take it from there.”
