Stefano Comini rejoins TCR Europe with Honda
Stefano Comini confirmed he will be back in TCR Europe starting from the Spa-Francorchamps event, which will be held this weekend. The Swiss will be at the wheel of a Honda Civic prepared by Belgian outfit THX Racing, which will run under the Autodis Racing by THX banner.
Comini had joined the European championship driving a Subaru WRX STi TCR, but he only scored a single point in the second race after a tough weekend. As a result the double TCR International Series champion elected to skip the second round of the championship at Zandvoort, in preparation for a comeback at this weekend’s third event of the season in Belgium.
“I’m over the moon, as this is the end of a nightmare that lasted from the end of the past season,” said Comini. “Not having a drive when the season started was awful, but now I can relax and focus on racing. And with confidence, because I know that we have a competitive package.”
“I always wanted to drive the Honda, finally this is happening and I hope I can stay with the brand in the future. I have a long list of people to thank: JAS Motorsport, Autodis Racing and THX Racing because they all believed in me and offered me this opportunity, but also the whole staff at Race Republic for working hard to make this happen. Now we hope to have a one-day test in Zolder before going to Spa.”
Comini thanked Top Run for their work in the Paul Ricard season opener, saying he wouldn’t rule out teaming up with the Italian outfit for a different project.
