Dan Lloyd still fighting to continue despite perfect score
Dan Lloyd’s programme in the 2018 TCR UK Touring Car Championship still isn’t assured despite having achieved a perfect score so far, with three pole positions and six victories from six races.
WestCoast Racing driver Lloyd has also gone from ninth on the grid to first in all three of the reversed grid races this year as well, and leaves Brands Hatch with a 99-point lead over Ollie Taylor’s Pyro Motorsport Honda Civic TCR.
Lloyd lost the lead to Taylor at the start of Race 1 at Brands Hatch, but snuck up on him at Clearways to take the lead in his Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR, while in Race 2 it took him ten laps to go from ninth to first, eventually passing Carl Swift’s Cupra TCR at Graham Hill bend.
“It’s not easy, even though everyone says it’s easy,” said Lloyd to TouringCarTimes after his sixth win.
“It was a really good race. I was gutted for Carl (Swift) to see him go off, as it was a really good battle we had. He really stuck it out there, stopping it on the apexes and didn’t give up easy and made me work for it, it was great.”
While Lloyd’s team-mates Andreas and Jessica Bäckman are committed to doing three of the remaining four races, only set to skip Croft due to a clash with the STCC event at Rudskogen, Lloyd’s deal is still race-by-race at the moment, but he’s hopeful of being at the next few rounds.
“I want to thanks the team for giving me the car to do it, it’s been a mega weekend again,” he said.
“As for the championship, 99 points is a great lead, it’s what we need. We have support coming to keep going, but we’re not sure if it’s for the full season, so we have to keep scoring these points.
“We’re working really hard. We don’t want to miss any rounds, we might have a new partner for the next round, so we hope to keep going as it’s an exciting season.”
