Aurélien Comte “felt no pressure” as he powered to DG’s first win in WTCR
Aurélien Comte said he didn’t feel under pressure as he led a World Touring Car race for the first time his career, following up yesterday’s second place with victory in the DG Sport Compétition Peugeot 308TCR in Race 2 at Zandvoort.
The Frenchman had a perfect launch from second on the grid to lead into Turn 1 ahead of the Münnich Honda of James Thompson, and though the two-time British champion kept him under pressure during the early stages, his challenge faded later in the race.
“Yesterday I did a very good start to manage to be P2, and it was already a very good result for the team,” said Comte. “Today I did the same again to take the lead into the first corner. At some parts James was a bit quicker than me, but I was able to manage my pace to the end of the race.
“I just focussed on my own race and I didn’t think about the cars behind; when I was behind the wheel I didn’t feel the pressure and just kept going to the end. “
