René Rast will miss Race 2 following his crash at the Lausitzring
Reigning champion René Rast won’t race tomorrow at the Lausitzring, under precautionary advice from doctors looking after the 31-year-old after his heavy accident in today’s race.
Action had restarted after a safety car intervention, then Loïc Duval came up Rast’s inside at the exit of Turn 3, with both RS 5 DTMs colliding and sending Rast into a roll with the car receiving substantial damage.
Rast was able to leave the car by himself and felt OK after initial checks at the circuit’s medical centre.
“I’m very good actually,” Rast said after returning to the Audi garage. “I didn’t feel anything from the crash, just my right elbow hurts a little bit, but I’m very good and I’m very happy to be in good condition.
Audi Sport hasn’t confirmed whether a reserve driver will be called to stand-in.
