Henry Ho wins TCR China Race 1 at Zhuhai
Henry Ho won the first round of the TCR China Touring Car Championship at the Zhuhai International Circuit, after launching into the lead at the start in his MacPro Honda Civic, and holding off Teamwork’s Sunny Wong to the finish.
Lo Sze Ho had started from pole position in the D Garage Kia Cee’d TCR, but stalled at the start, while Henry Ho had the perfect getaway in the Civic Type R FK8 to launch into the lead, going around Sunny Wong’s Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR into Turn 1.
Wong kept in touch with Ho throughout the race, as the top two pulled away from the NewFaster Racing Audi RS 3 LMS of Wang Hao and the DRT Volkswagen of Lai Wee Sing.
James Tang spun his TRC Honda Civic FK2 at the final corner at the end of the first lap and was narrowly avoided by Tang Carson’s Audi. Tang’s mistake was replicated by team-mate Terence Tse on lap seven, who also went wide at the final corner.
The second of MacPro’s Hondas of Kevin Lom span out on lap four and went on to finish in 12th position
Ho went on to win the race just under a second ahead of Wong’s Volkswagen, with Wang completing the podium.
Malaysian driver Lai Wee Sing finished fourth, while Lo Sze Ho put on a great recovery drive, also setting the fastest lap in the Kia Cee’d to recover to fifth ahead of Tse and Pat Wong’s FK2 Hondas, with Jeronimo Badaraco’s Son Veng Volkswagen eighth, James Tang’s TRC Honda ninth and with Li Xue Feng completing the top ten in the HE Racing Volkswagen.
The next event is TCR China Race 2 at 11:00 CST on Sunday (05:00 CEST), with Wang Hao starting on pole in the Audi.
