Philip Morin leads PWR Cupra 1-2 in first test session

PWR Racing’s Philip Morin was fastest of all in the first test session of the 2018 STCC season at Ring Knutstorp, leading team-mate Daniel Haglöf in a 1-2 result for the team, with their closest threat coming from World Rallycross champion Johan Kristoffersson.

All of the teams are busy adjusting to the new TCR BoP measures introduced earlier today, with every car in the field now running 10mm lower, and a 10kg weight reduction on the Cupras.

PWR Racing’s Daniel Haglöf was the first driver under one minute in his Cupra TCR, setting his best time of 59.805 just before ten minutes into the session.

Haglöf was pipped at the half-way mark by his 21-year-old new team-mate Philip Morin, whose time of 59.595 stood to the end of the session.

Johan Kristoffersson in the Kristoffersson Motorsport Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR then went faster than reigning champion Robert Dahlgren’s PWR Cupra to go third quickest with just under ten minutes remaining.

Micke Ohlsson was the fastest of the Audis in his Brink Motorsport-run entry in fifth, while Fredrik Ekblom was sixth fastest and the best-placed of the WestCoast Racing Volkswagens.

Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky was seventh in her Cupra TCR, just under eight-tenths from Morin’s pace-setting time, with Hugo Nerman the fastest of the JTCC (junior) drivers in eighth in his Kristoffersson-run Volkswagen Golf.

Nerman’s team-mate Nicklas Oscarsson and the Brink Motorsport Audi of Tobias Brink rounded out the top ten.

The next test session is scheduled for 13:50 CET.
