Tom Ingram becomes first repeat winner
Tom Ingram became the first repeat winner of the BTCC season with a fine drive through the field to take Race 2 honours at Donington Park.
Ingram had started the race from 13th on the grid but free from ballast on his Toyota Avensis, and having run the slower hard tyre in race one, he made light work of making his move up the order.
By the end of lap three, the championship leader was into the top six thanks to a fine move that got him ahead of Rob Collard and James Cole in one fell swoop.
Getting ahead of race one winner Josh Cook and the Honda of Dan Cammish – who had held the lead before his hard tyres started to drop away – Ingram then made his move for the lead on Chris Smiley going into the final corner and was able to ease out an advantage in the final laps to take his second win of the year.
Smiley followed him home in second spot for his first podium finish in the series, with Jack Goff rounding out the top three having also made the most of being on the more favourable prime tyre to fight his way up into the top three.
Cammish took fourth as the best placed of the hard tyre runners with Adam Morgan emerging from a chaotic midfield battle with fifth place; an impressive result given he had started the race down in 23rd spot on the grid.
James Cole, Cook and Ash Sutton rounded out the top eight.
Title hopeful Colin Turkington endured a race to forget after he was pushed off the grid before the start and would ultimately fail to finish, with James Nash and Sam Smelt also being forced into retirement.
