Mattias Andersson on top at Knutstorp in wet afternoon test
Honda driver Mattias Andersson was fastest in the wet afternoon session of the official STCC pre-season test at Knutstorp, setting his best lap time at the start of the session when the rain had just begun.
Andersson was 3.2 seconds faster than WestCoast Racing Volkswagen driver Fredrik Ekblom in second, and 4.5 seconds faster than Brink Motorsport Audi of Micke Ohlsson in third.
Andreas Bäckman, team-mate to Ekblom, put his Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR in fourth position in the tricky conditions ahead of another STCC newcomer, that of Alex Andersson, who was fifth for Brovallen Design.
Finnish driver Olli Kangas was the fastest of the Cupra drivers in sixth position for LMS Racing, 0.109 seconds faster than Volkswagen driver Andreas Wernersson in seventh.
Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky of PWR Racing and Jessica Bäckman, driving for WestCoast Racing, occupied positions eight and nine with a mere three thousands of a second separating the two, with Kristoffersson Motorsport driver Nicklas Oscarsson rounding off the top ten.
The wet conditions saw several drivers not taking part in the session, including PWR Racing driver Daniel Haglöf and Robert Dahlgren, who topped the first part of the test day that was held in dry conditions.
The 2018 STCC season starts next weekend on May 4-5th at Knutstorp.
