Fredrik Ekblom returns with WestCoast Racing for 2018 STCC season

Fredrik Ekblom is back with the team with which he claimed his first STCC title in 1998, racing for WestCoast Racing in the 2018 Scandinavian Touring Car Championship season.

”I am not giving up and I am of course both really happy and proud to get the trust from Dick (team manager) and WestCoast Racing again,” said Ekblom.

The three-time STCC champion last raced for the team in 2008 when he finished second overall. Last year Ekblom raced for Kristoffersson Motorsport, also finishing second in the championship.

”The mission from Dick is simple, I am here to win and to add another STCC title to the collection. I have experienced some of my best and most enjoyable years in the STCC with this team and it feels truly motivating to be back,” said Ekblom.

Ekblom is going to join siblings Andreas and Jessica Bäckman in one of the team’s three Volkswagen Golf GTI TCRs.

”Fredrik Ekblom in a third car in the STCC for us feels really, really good,” said team manager Dick Jönsson Wigroth.

”He has got a strong history with us and has always fit fantastically well in the team and I can see how motivated he is for this. He will also be a strong complement to Andreas and Jessica and I think we have a really exciting driver trio that is perfect for us in our STCC return.”
