Tom Ingram heads opening practice at Brands Hatch
Tom Ingram took top honours in the opening practice session of the new BTCC season at Brands Hatch.
The Speedworks driver assumed his regular position at the head of the times in opening practice with a best lap of 48.384secs proving to be good enough to edge out the Eurotech Honda of Jack Goff.
Ingram was out front for much of the session, which would pass without much in the way of drama aside from a brief mid-session red flag called after the splitter of Tom Boardman’s MG worked loose.
In a closely fought fight at the front, Tom Chilton was third quickest in his Motorbase Ford but within a tenth of the quickest time, with Matt Simpson fourth.
The returning Sam Tordoff was fifth ahead of the first of the new Honda Civics in the hands of Dan Cammish – the former Porsche champion spending much of the session running through checks before posting his timed laps late in th esession.
Rory Butcher’s AmD-run MG, the Astra of Josh Cook, Colin Turkington’s BMW and the Mercedes of Adam Morgan rounded out the top ten.
Defending champion Ash Sutton was quickest of the Subaru drivers down in 13th place, whilst Chris Smiley’s BTC Norlin Honda Civic was the only car not to set a time.
