Team BMR to switch engine suppliers for 2018 season
Team BMR will switch engine suppliers for the 2018 British Touring Car Championship season.
The team have previously used Mountune for the supply of Boxer engines for their Subaru Levorg GTs and, although they haven’t offically confirmed their new supplier, TouringCarTimes understands it is TOCA engine tuner Swindon.
Team boss Warren Scott says the work done over the winter has left him in confident mood ahead of the new season, and believes the changes to the engine and chassis will help the team challenge for more titles.
Asked if a repeat of Ash Sutton’s title-winning season was possible, Scott said: “I think so. I hope we can keep the number one and go for the manufacturers, which we missed out on last year. Honda and BMW will be upping their game, but we’ve done the same. It will be extremely close.
“We’ve done a fair bit of chassis work and a few mods to the engine so if they all come right we will move forward.”
Speaking about the Boxer engine changes, Scott added: “There is a change [to our supplier]. Hopefully we will have a bit more usable power, that’s what we are aiming for.
“We will be doing exactly what everyone else can do, which is a bit above my pay grade! It is just evolution, fine-tuning everything – mapping, cams, exhaust – every little thing to maximise what we have got.”
Scott’s squad is reduced in size by one car this season, with Sutton, Jason Plato and Josh Price making up a three-strong team, something he says was in his plans over the winter.
“With MG leaving I wanted to cut down, but wasn’t sure how much. It just comes down to sponsors’ money, drivers’ money and what I can put together,” he said.
