Another pole each for Scott McLaughlin and Jamie Whincup
DJR Team Penske driver Scott McLaughlin and Triple Eight Race Engineering driver Jamie Whincup claimed the final two pole positions for the Supercars championship round at the Melbourne Grand Prix.
The duo secured yesterday’s two pole positions and repeated the feature today.
McLaughlin claimed pole for race three with a time of 1:55.1576, close to two tenths faster than Brad Jones Racing driver Nick Percat in second and another tenth faster than Walkinshaw Andretti United’s Scott Pye in third.
Whincup was fourth fastest ahead of Time Slade, while Chaz Mostert was fastest of the Tickford Racing drivers in sixth position. McLaughlin’s team-mate Fabian Coulthard was seventh fastest ahead of the fastest Nissan Motorsport driver in the form of Michael Caruso, rounding off the top eight.
Whincup came back in the final qualifying session, claiming pole with 1:55.4777 while Erebus Motorsport driver David Reynolds will join him on the front row.
Percat was close to the top once again in third, with Mostert moving up to fourth position in this session.
Pye dropped from third in the previous session to fifth in this session ahead of DJR Team Penske driver Coulthard.
Caruso was once again fastest of the Nissan drivers in seventh ahead of the Ford duo of Will Davison in eighth and McLaughlin a disappointing ninth.
