Polestar’s motorsports programme moved to new Geely Group Motorsport arm
Volvo and Polestar’s racing team, Polestar Cyan Racing, is no more in name, with Volvo owner Zhejiang Geely Holding Group instead launching a new motorsport wing titled Geely Group Motorsport, which will be led by former Polestar motorsport head Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin.
The new division has officially confirmed the news that neither Volvo or its performance brand Polestar will enter a car in this year’s World Touring Car Cup, with its 2017 champion, Thed Björk, instead racing for Yvan Muller Racing in a privately run Hyundai i30 N TCR.
“We have created this group in order to take the next step forward for the Geely Group regarding motorsport operations,” said Mr. Victor Yang, Vice President of Communications at Zhejiang Geely Holding Group. “Enabling us to focus resources and expertise, plan more efficiently and to maximise the outcome of our efforts,” he added.
Cyan Racing, run by former Polestar boss Christian Dahl, will continue to be the official motorsport partner to Geely Group Motorsport, after having developed the championship-winning S60 TC1 during the past two years.
There’s been no official confirmation about their motorsport plans, but it’s speculated that Cyan are developing a TCR specification car for competition from the 2019 season.
